Many Waters is the fourth book in the Time Quintet by Madeleine L'Engle.

Plot[]

Sandy and Dennys accidentally interrupt a parent’s experiment and find themselves thrown across time and space to an ancient desert. They are rescued by Japheth, a man from the nearby oasis, but before he can bring them to safety, Dennys gets lost. Each boy is quickly embroiled in the conflicts of this time and place, whose populations includes miniature mammoths, virtual unicorns, manticores, perilously beautiful nephilim and their benevolent seraph counterparts, and small, long lived humans who consider Sandy and Dennys giants. What ensues is a complicated chain of events involving sunstroke, unicorn-induced teleportation, various averted attempts at seduction, the infatuation of both twins with Noah’s daughter Yalith, the reunion of Noah and his estranged father (Lamech), and Noah’s daughter Mahlah’s impregnation by and eventual marriage to a nephil. All along, Sandy and Dennys face an alarming question: if the Great Flood is coming and they and Yalith have no place on the Ark, what will happen to them? Ultimately, Yalith is assumed into Heaven alive and the twins return home with the help of seraphim.
